XI Class notes-Tests for organic compounds

Analysis of organic compounds:
Experiment-1:
The given sample is burnt in the Bunsen flame.
Observation:
The organic compound is burnt with sooty flame.
Inference:
The given organic compound is Aromatic.

The organic compound is burnt with non-sooty flame.
Inference:
The given organic compound is Aliphatic.

Experiment-2- Checking the saturation:
The given organic compound is taken in a test tube & shaken with a little amount of very dilute solution of KMnO4.
Observation:
The colour of KMnO4 is decolourised.
Inference:
The given organic compound is Unsaturated.
The colour of KMnOis not decolourised.
Inference:
The given organic compound is saturated.
